Background of Ridgway Pottery The Ridgway family was one of the most important pottery dynasties in Staffordshire, England, during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Beginning with Job Ridgway in the 1790s, the firm produced earthenwares and porcelains that came to define key developments in English ceramics. After Job Ridgway died in 1813, his sons John Ridgway and William Ridgway took over the family’s Shelton-based pottery.
